Yusra Mardini

As a little girl Yusra was afraid of the water, but once she started learning she started to enjoy it and it helped with the problems in her life. Unfortunately, where Yusra lived, in Syria, there was a war. This became very dangerous for Yusra and her family. Her house and the pool she swam in was destroyed because of the war.  The pool had holes in it and was filled with rubble. Yusra fled Syria to Berlin.  On the way, the boat they were in was beginning to sink, as there were too many people in it.  Yusra and three others pulled the boat by swimming for hours to the Greek Islands.  They saved all the people on board!  From there, Yusra travelled to Berlin.  Once in Berlin, Yusra joined a swimming club. Yusra competed at the Olympics as a refugee.  Yusra and her family now live in Berlin.

  1. Hey Erika,

Well done on completing yet another activity! You're doing an awesome job getting through them all.

Great summary of Yusra Mardini's story, Erika. I can't believe how long her and the other three swimmers swam for - they must have been exhausted! Do you like swimming?

    Bye for now,

    Mikey :)
